A message from Paul

Paul has been with GoodSeed since the beginning. And been working with New Tribes Mission before that. Today he went for surgery for some cancer that he’s been battling. As I type, I’ve not heard how it went, but yesterday he sent out an email with a video message to his family and friends. It’s well worth the time to watch (almost 40 minutes) as it gives the encouragement that one can receive from believing in the God of the Bible, even in the hardest times of life. Have any projects lately?

I've been asked several times what projects I've been working on lately. But with that, my response has been that I've been doing a lot of little things. Here's the list for today:

Make coffee
Inventory the warehouse
Re-label a section in the warehouse to find a better labeling solution
Answer phones
Answer email questions for our website TheTabernaclePlace.com
Print invoices / fill orders / pack boxes for USPS Mail and UPS (largest order was 15 cases)
Run to the Office Supply store for supplies
Administrate our online Task Managing Software
Field FTP log-in questions
Collect / input new email addresses into our email sending software
Review disputed Credit Card charges
Order refill pages for the daily planner
Re-stock shelves in the packing room
Work on putting up an audio file with captions of an interview of John Cross by Moody Radio Chicago FM 90.1

Working on the truck

Started working on the truck today. Going well -- got all 4 replaced. However, the wheelbearings need to be replaced as well, and I'll have to wait till Monday before the parts come in, which should work out ok. So glad I came up yesterday otherwise we wouldn't have had parts till Tuesday.

All in a day's work

Yesterday, I worked about 9 hours packing orders for a special event. John Cross had another radio interview with Moody Radio Chicago, and we gave away a package of a Stranger book and WorkBook. Another 4 or so hours this morning finished up the project. A total of around 220 orders went out!

After the day started getting back to normal, Barney called saying that Jessy got the truck stuck while they were out picking huckleberries. So, Kellen and I went to get them back to civilization. We drove to Pinehurst, then up East Fork, then up Highland Creek Road. We only drove 8 miles off the pavement, but that took an hour to get to where they were. The truck wasn’t stuck bad, just couldn’t pull the hill (it was only a 2wd.) The biggest challenge was turning my truck around so I didn’t have to pull them out backwards. It took a little work, but managed to get it out ok. Once we got hooked up, it was no problem. Beautiful day and place to be!

The Farmer

A story I heard over the weekend:

There is a Taoist story of an old farmer who had worked his crops for many years. One day his horse ran away. Upon hearing the news, his neighbors came to visit. "Such bad luck," they said sympathetically. "Maybe," the farmer replied. The next morning the horse returned, bringing with it three other wild horses. "How wonderful," the neighbors exclaimed. "Maybe," replied the old man. The following day, his son tried to ride one of the untamed horses, was thrown, and broke his leg. The neighbors again came to offer their sympathy on his misfortune. "Maybe," answered the farmer. The day after, military officials came to the village to draft young men into the army. Seeing that the son's leg was broken, they passed him by. The neighbors congratulated the farmer on how well things had turned out. "Maybe," said the farmer.

Closed Captioning

Today I finished putting captions on our Bible 101 course—the 11 hours of video that anyone can watch freely online. Up to this point, I didn’t have captions because the software I had didn’t work well with everything. But now that things have been upgraded, it was a rather painless process. Today I finished off an interview that Moody Radio Chicago did with John Cross. It took a while to figure out, basically because what I’m doing here (putting captions on an audio file) is not a common thing to do. This here is possible because the video player we use will play a straight mp3 file, then I just put captions on top.

Bathroom's done

Started the day off with Men’s Bible Study, followed by 3 hours of pushing a broom on the roof. Spreading tar. About 6 of us guys covered around 6,000 square feet. It actually went down fairly easily, and managed to get covered rather well.

Getting home I had enough time to finish off the bathroom. Finally! So, just let me know before you come to visit so I can go and get a shower curtain. (And clean the house.) I have a shower door was given to me, but it’s in Wisconsin. And it’ll stay there till I find a good way to get it out : )
